It’s Halloween week, which means I’m leaning hard into the weird. And nothing says “unexplained” like the Mima Mounds. These grassy, dome-shaped bumps in Thurston County look suspiciously like nature’s version of crop circles. Coincidence? I think not.

Lexi and I stumbled on them last summer during a road trip through Washington and Oregon with my awesome parents (Steve and Martha, you’re the real MVPs). My dad casually mentioned these mysterious mounds, and I was like—hold up, possible alien landing pads right in Washington State? I’m in.

Scientists have been arguing for decades about what caused them. Some say gophers (cute, but unlikely), others blame seismic activity or glacial floods. But let’s be real: if you’ve ever stood in the middle of them, surrounded by eerie silence and perfectly spaced humps, you feel the mystery. It’s eerily peaceful—like the kind of quiet that makes you wonder if you’ve just wandered into a sci-fi movie. Or a portal. Or a gopher uprising.

My Mima Mounds design is a tribute to that vibe. Vintage, earthy tones, and a little Pacific Northwest magic. It’s a hidden local jewel with a wink to the extraterrestrial. Isn't God's creation awe inspiring! No photos from our trip—go see them yourself and tell me if you feel watched. 👀

So grab your family, pack some snacks, and take a walk through the weird. Just don’t forget to look up. You never know who—or what—might be hovering.
